Notes on Walkey
The name Walkey found its way into our family tree when Ethel Potts married Oliver Walkey.
Ethel's father was something like the Governor of Tasmania, if I remember correctly.
The Rev. Oliver Walkey was an extraordinary polymath, who not only ran parishes and missions, but also contributed articles to astronomical societies and various other organisations.
His family were well rooted in the West Country where they had a long line of country Squires, county Sherriffs, Vicars and the like, though Oliver dedicated himself to Missionary work, with a particular interest in the Amazon basin, which he explored and mapped, with his maps being used for publications such as the Times Atlas as well as references for the USA airforce.
He saw missionary work in Australia, India and South America, with a family of 7 children in tow, with Parishes in the West Country and the Scilly Isles while in the UK.
